HISTORY
Every Cuaba is made in the distinctive shape known as a double figurado, the style that at the end of the 19th Century was much in vogue for Havanas. A century later, in 1996, this rich tradition was revived at the Romeo y Julieta factory as a tribute to how Habanos once were presented globally.
Double figurados are at the pinnacle of the cigar maker’s art and for this alone they merit a place in every cigar enthusiast’s collection.
Cuaba, like Cohiba, is a Taino Indian word dating back to the time of Columbus, and no doubt long before. It was their term for a highly combustible bush, which they used to light their ‘cohibas’.
All sizes of Cuaba are ‘tripa larga, totalmente a mano,’ – long filler, totally handmade.
A size that first appeared in the Millennium ceramic jar series – many felt it was the best – before being introduced to the Cuaba portfolio in 2003.
TASTING NOTES
The Cuaba Distinguidos is an elegant Double Figurado that offers a smooth, medium-to-full-bodied experience. It starts with fresh, herbaceous notes alongside light wood, quickly transitioning to roasted nuts and fine leather. As the cigar progresses, a subtle, earthy sweetness and a gentle spice emerge, creating a refined and balanced complexity that is approachable yet sophisticated.
This cigar is best paired with a nuanced drink that complements its subtlety, such as a Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky or an Aged VSOP Cognac, enhancing the nutty and herbal character.
