HISTORY

Every Cuaba is made in the distinctive shape known as a double figurado, the style that at the end of the 19th Century was much in vogue for Havanas. A century later, in 1996, this rich tradition was revived at the Romeo y Julieta factory as a tribute to how Habanos once were presented globally.

Double figurados are at the pinnacle of the cigar maker’s art and for this alone they merit a place in every cigar enthusiast’s collection.

Cuaba, like Cohiba, is a Taino Indian word dating back to the time of Columbus, and no doubt long before. It was their term for a highly combustible bush, which they used to light their ‘cohibas’.

All sizes of Cuaba are ‘tripa larga, totalmente a mano,’ – long filler, totally handmade.

This was the largest of Cuaba’s original sizes when it was introduced at a glittering dinner at Claridge’s Hotel in London in 1996. This vitola allows you to totally lose yourself in the past when almost all Habanos were presented in this style.

TASTING NOTES

The Cuaba Exclusivos offers one of the mellowest, yet richly textured, smokes in the Cuaba range. It opens with gentle notes of herbs and mild wood, quickly evolving to a smooth blend of roasted nuts and cocoa. Throughout the smoking session, this cigar maintains a creamy texture, punctuated by light spice and an agreeable underlying sweetness.

This cigar pairs beautifully with a drink that has complexity without overwhelming the cigar, such as an Old Fashioned cocktail or a Barrel-Aged Añejo Rum, complementing the cocoa and nutty undertones.
